Equality, Diversity & Inclusion Policy
Effective Date: 24th April 20251. Our Commitment
JL Academy is dedicated to encouraging a supportive and inclusive culture among our workforce and within every training session we deliver. It is within our best interest to promote diversity and eliminate discrimination in the workplace.
Our aim is to ensure that all employees, associates, and delegates are given equal opportunity and that our organisation is representative of all sections of society.
2. The Legal Framework
This policy reinforces our commitment to the Equality Act 2010. We oppose all forms of unlawful and unfair discrimination based on the following protected characteristics:
3. Reasonable Adjustments in Training
JL Academy is committed to making our training accessible to all. However, we recognise that Physical Intervention courses carry inherent physical demands.
Our Approach:
- Pre-Course Assessment: We encourage delegates to disclose any physical or learning disabilities prior to the course so we can plan reasonable adjustments.
- Differentiation: Where possible, we will adapt techniques to suit individual physical capabilities, provided these adaptations do not compromise safety or the effectiveness of the intervention.
- Certification Standards: For BILD ACT certified courses, delegates must demonstrate physical competence to pass. If a disability prevents a delegate from safely performing a physical skill, they may complete the theory components but may not be certified for the physical intervention module. This is a safety requirement, not discrimination.
4. Conduct in the Training Room
We strive to create a "Psychologically Safe" environment for learning. Therefore, JL Academy has a zero-tolerance approach to bullying, harassment, or victimization.
Any delegate found making discriminatory remarks or behaving in a way that harasses others based on protected characteristics will be removed from the course immediately without refund.
5. Our Responsibilities
To create an environment in which individual differences and the contributions of all our staff and delegates are recognized and valued.
To review all our employment practices and procedures to ensure fairness.
6. Reporting Breaches
Employees or delegates who feel they have been subject to discrimination should raise this via our Complaints Policy or directly to a Director.
